Settlement policies imposed by the government plus the expansion of road networks fomented deforestation in the Amazon region. The creation of protected areas was one of the strategies found by the Brazilian government to contain the advance of deforestation. This study aims to evaluate the dynamics of deforestation in the Bom Futuro National Forest from 1988 to 2014. The evaluations were made of three-year basis from 1988 to 2014, using Landsat 5 images and 8. Quantification of deforested areas and deforested areas in permanent preservation areas (APP) were extracted after classification of images and transformation of polygons in pictures. The most intense human occupation in conservation unit occurred since 1997, the height of its deforestation between 2003 and 2006. In 2009 the deforested areas were around 24.20% of the entire length of the Bom Futuro National Forest with these 21 29% in Permanent Preservation Areas (APP). Population growth, the expansion of agriculture, the lack of a management plan and the lack of supervision were the main responsible for the mischaracterization of the Bom Futuro National Forest, and further reduction of its area.
